PROSPECTUS: Location Lighting (Indoor)
Location lighting is the art of creating beautiful light for a video or photo project in a place where the existing light is sub-optimal. In this video, we will demonstrate how to use NEEWER’s 660 RBG panel to create light that seamlessly blends with the location and existing light. Our goal is not to replace the light, but try and mold it to be as beautiful as possible.
Setup #1 - Natural Light
The simplest approach to location lighting is understanding the ambient light of a location and using it as a jump-off point to create better light. A good example of this is including a window in the background of the final frame. This window will likely not cast enough light to affect our subject, but we can use it to justify a nice backlight. This blending of “practical” light with our introduced light is a hallmark of good location lighting.
Setup #2 - Colored Light
One of the most exciting aspects of the NEEWER RGB panel lights is their ability to cast light in any color of the spectrum. This really opens the door to some dynamic images, so for the second example I’d like to show how this technology can be utilized to match a practical light like a neon sign or candle flame. We can use the RGB functions to create a secondary light source that emulates a practical light source in the frame.
Equipment
We will be showcasing the NEEWER 660 RGB lighting system. One of the features of this light that I would like to highlight is its ability to be run on battery power. This is an incredibly valuable technology for location lighting, and I want to make sure we convey that to the audience. We will also showcase the RGB spectrum functions through our “colored light” setup. Additionally, I would like to show how to enlarge and soften the key light source using a transparent reflector mounted on a light stand.
